FAQ's
.

What kind of equipment do you use?

We use Eagle Creek backpacks because everything is carry-on gear. We use lots of Jungle Juice (with deet, the only thing that really works), Bullfrog and campsuds. We've had shots for everything we know about and carry Cipro antibiotic and take Mefloquin if malaria is a concern.

What kind of camera equipment do you use?

I have used Nikon cameras and lenses since 1980.   Many of the pictures on this site were made with Kodak slide film.  A lot of the wildlife pictures were shot with a Tamron 200~400mm zoom lens.   Once I started using a Nikon D70 in 2004 almost everything has been digital.  Some of the photos in China and India were shot with a Canon A610 compact camera.  Both these cameras are old in digital years which go by very quickly.  The camera itself is not as important as the light and knowing how to use it.

How do you decide where to go?

We read a lot and are always adding new places to our list of exotic locales.  As a result we have hardly ever been to the same place twice.  We will never run out of places to go but sometimes events, weather, polictics and wars limit where we can go right now.

How do you plan your trips?

We use the Wilderness Travel's catalog plus
National Geographic Adventure magazine for ideas of what to expect.

Why do you use a Travel Company?

For the guides.  We have had exceptional experiences with trip leaders. They know the best places to go at the best time of the day and year.  As locals they can often get us into places we might not even know about on our own.

What is the most challenging part about photographing tigers?

As in, was it getting to Rajasthan, or getting up at dawn to drive through the forest? Or waiting for the tiger to find us?  Yes, I suppose it was.
Oh, did we mention the leeches?  Probably just as well.
