Australia is the land down-under. It is a long way away, especially if you live in California as we did then. It also feels very familiar with beaches, bays, mountains and lots of people on the coast. In the hot and empty interior, there are striking physical formations everywhere you go. But Uluru (Ayers rock) is unique.
